I haven't written about TV in a long time. Well, in print, that is. Or, in this case, electronically. So here's my rant on why NBC has come a long way in the sucking department this season.
First off, and most recently, there's the Peacock Network's attempt at The Office. It's horrible, and those critics that have given it good reviews have obviously been given copious (cq?) amounts of oral sex from NBC's PR department. In two episodes, this American version has taken all the qualities that made the BBC version great and completely bastardized them. Forgive Steve Carell for thinking he's funny on the show, when he's not. Forgive the rest of the cast; actors need to work, too, even if it's for something that would make Satan or Stan Zbornak cry.
Also recently -- well, coming up next Monday -- is Behind the Camera: Mork & Mindy. Does the world really need a telefilm that basically says, "Oh yeah, Robin Williams had a drug problem. Ha?" And judging by the commercials, the actor who is portraying Williams, while getting his trademark annoyingness down, doesn't quite live up in the hairyness department and should have probably been made to wear back, chest and arm wigs. Sigh.
I think one of the only good things NBC has done this season is launching Medium. I was skeptic about the show when i first heard about it, but I'm now completely enthralled with it. Who knew Patricia Arquette (or any Arquette, for that matter), could play a stable, loving, normal, married wife and mother? Definitely not I. And it helps that Arquette does channel a little of her character Kristen from Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
OK, that's all for now. More to come later.
