ok, ok, ok, i hate politics, i really do. considering how long i covered it, is it any wonder WHY i hate politics. but many things piss me off politically, but few ever get me all ranty. one of those that falls into the latter is gay marriage.
let me just start my rant off with i FUCKING HATE warren chisum. i hate him. hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate. hate him, hate him, wouldn't want to date him. there, that's off my chest.
so chisum was quoted today in an associated press article saying that he "think[s] the institution of one man and one woman provides the best atmosphere in which to raise children. That's the purpose of [the bill to ban same-sex marriage in the Texas Constitution]."
who the fuck is this man kidding himself? maybe it's just all the friends that i've had/have, but most with "traditional" parents had fucked up childhoods filled with divorce, abuse (emotional/physical/verbal), drug problems, etc. (myself included), whereas the few friends i have that have two moms or two dads are, by far, the most stable people i've ever met and have a stable, loving family unit. they come from the kind of family that makes me sick they're so sweet, but i secretly wished that's how my childhood had been.
marriage should not have to be defined as nothing more than a union between two people that love each other. that's it. the "best atmosphere" in which to raise children is in the eye of the beholder, and marriage sometimes isn't a part of that.
as a gay man, and that's a title and card i don't pull out all the time, i'd like to be able to possibly marry someone one day.
ok, that's my rant. do with it what you will.
