Kudos to those that get the ref in the post title and therefore more or less know what is to come.
I got an e-mail from my sis not too long ago, with her informing me that Veruca Salt is going to play the White Rabbit in San Antonio. After I got over my initial time gestalt (had I time traveled back to 1996? was I still lusting after Steve Lack?), I found myself wondering "Is Veruca Salt still around? And if so, why? And further more, why?"
Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan of the Salt, and lusted after their original bassist with the tenacity of a salivating dog or a victrola. I went through several tapes of American Thighs before finally getting it on CD (and subsequently getting it stolen) back in 99. My fanness dimmed a little with Eight Arms To Hold You, which wasn't all that great (although for some reason I can't get "With David Bowie" out of my head right now) and included the band recruiting the incestous Stacy Jones from Letters to Cleo1 on drums. Then Nina Gordon left the band (along with everyone else) in 98. Then Louise2 decided to reform the group and release the very horrible Resolver in 2000 (note: I still own this CD because no one, not even Half Price or any hapless Craigslisters3, will buy it from me. It's like an STD or a child).
But, after some research, I found that Veruca Salt, for some reason or another, is still around. And look at the photos on there. Geez, I didn't think it was possible for Louise to get skankier and have bandmates that just look really untalented. But I guess anything is possible. Just like this poor excuse for Veruca Salt. Oh my.
1 Remember when they were on the Melrose Place soundtrack? Along with Aimee Mann? I do.
2 Isn't it funny how Nina has a Wikipedia page, but Louise doesn't? Classic.
3 And we know Craigslisters will buy anything. ANYTHING! OK, obviously not anything, but they'll trade weed for oral sex. Sounds like high school.
