The Pulse 14Pretty much the last issue of The Pulse and the start of Jessica Jones basically being Luke Cage's baby momma. Sad, really, although we do finally get to see Jess as the long fabled Knightress. And that she really does have a maternal side (but we all saw that over in Young Avengers already, anyhow). We also see how Jess and Luke first met, and oh yeah, she agrees to marrying him (which we already knew from the solicits for the "new" Avengers annual). It's a good issue, but it's sad to see Jess shuttled off to "supporting character land." Oh well.
Teen Titans 33The last issue before the One Year Later jump finds Superboy and Nightwing trying to make their way to Alex Luthor's hideout, as well as some interesting character play between Dick and Conner. We get some allusions to the Titans Tomorrow storyline with a cliffhanger (will Cassie be Ares's champion?). Oh, yeah, did I forget to mention Superboy has to rip off Nightwing's costume? Hot! We also get a nice recap of Titans and Superboy history. But I also have a question: Conner says he and Cassie did it? When? I think I need to read my issues to figure this one out. So this issue leads into Infinite Crisis 6, and then next issue features the new lineup (which we already know contains Robin, Wonder Girl, Raveger, and Kid Devil). OK, next.
New X-Men 24I totally don't understand New X-Men, and I'm not liking what Craig Jyle and Chris Yost are doing so far. I don't understand who's dead? Is it just the non-mutant kids that were being sneaked out? If so, why wasn't Prodigy among them? And where are the mutant students that didn't make the cut? We see a couple in the background of the funeral, but where are the rest? What's happening to them? How did the team already have their new outfits on? And Val's kind of a bitch for saying it's all Emma Frost's fault. Geez, the woman has already been through enough. And not liking Stryker as the main new villian. I give this title a few more issues before I officially stop picking it up very month. Geez.
Son of M 4 (of 6)Interesting stuff getting set up here. You feel sorry for poor, naive Luna and her newfound (and mostly unwanted) powers, which let her see that there's something sinister growing in Pietro.
And I guess not having mutant powers makes Callisto a fucking hottie. And poor Callisto.
And man, the Inhumans (and Magneto) look fucking pissed. Poor Pietro.
Fables 47The second part to the Rodney and June storyline sheds more light on these two love-stricken wooden people and how they are bound to be important in some future issues. This issue we see Rodney and June get their wish to be made flesh, but with some consequences (well, duh!). They get sent to the Mundy world to spy on the exiled Fables, with some sort of foul plan being set in motion. Leave it to Bill Willingham to leave no stone (or in this case, character) unturned (or unused).
Cable & Deadpool 26So this storyline is supposed to be a prequel to what's already going on in X-Men. And it shows Cable fighting a very un-Apocalypse-y En Sabah Nur.
And Cable's crew searching for Cable (and ending up at Pocie's sphinx.
And Deadpool doesn't really do a whole lot this issue.
And what's up with Cable? Not a very good issue (but then again, bringing Apocalypse bad was just a stupid move in the first place).
X-Men: The 198 3 (of 5)
Still not overly impressed by this series, which was billed as playing up and making the other mutants who kept their powers matter. Meh. Not so much. What we get here is a bunch of characters (mostly C-class villians) that you already didn't care about and aren't being treated in such a good manner. What we do get is the U.S. government acting more like Nazis to the mutants' Jews. And why Mammomax? Gah.
The rest from last week (later than the period of a Christian girl who won't admit that she had unprotected sex)
Daughters of the Dragon 2 (of 6)Oh my, I'm starting to wonder how I've gone through life this long without Misty Knight and Collen Wing in my life. Seriously. I've only been acquainted with these ladies for two issues, and, well, if only I were a non-gay male comic book character ... I'd probably still not have a chance with these two fiesty bailbondswomen. There's nothing bad about this book, form the way Colleen deals with Razorfist to their new geeky office assistant (who reminds me of Jessica Jones's assistant over on Alias) to the lame-ass villians to the exploding cars. Man, I wish this weren't a limited series. Grrr.
Next Wave 2This is really all I have to say about this issue: Fin Fang Foom wants to put Boom Boom down his purple underpants. If you don't want to read this issue because of that, then something is WRONG with you. This may just be the perfect team book. There are no words to fittingly describe how awesome this book is and that everyone in the whole damn world should be reading this. If you don't read this book, you'll break Fin Fang Foom's heart. Oh, wait ...
Y The Last Man 43Starting off the Kimono Dragons storyline, we get Yorrick dressed about as scary as Michael Jackson and 355 saying that Allison and Rose are fucking.
Not much goes on, really, besides some explosions, some decapitating, more on the search for Ampersand, and, oh yeah, the ending will fucking throw you.
That's all I'm saying.
(New) Excalibur 5
I'm saying this now to get it over with: I hate Lionheart. I hated her when they made her the "new" Captain Britain over in Avengers. I hate her whininess. She's a moronic character. That's it. On to this issue, I feel like I've wasted money. Seriously. Five issues in and now get the team becoming a team. And where the fuck are Sage's face tattoos? And what's with her hideous outfit? And why is Pete Wisdom obviously trying to get into her pants? And why are Dazzler, Nocturne, and Juggernaut coming off as lame? And what's up with Courtney Ross? And am I the only one who thinks Albion is just another alternate-realtiy Brian Braddock? And why haven't I dropped this title yet? Sigh.
X-Men: The End, Book Three 3
Another to file under that "why am I still reading this pile." Yeah, OK, so the Chicago mayoral race is the slowest counted race on Earth, apparently. The X-Men are in space. I still hate X-23. Why Cassandra Nova? Why Khan? I think I may hate Gambit even more. Poor Rachel and/or Lilandra. Again, why am I still reading this?
