So, this morning I received an e-newsletter from the Dayton Daily News. And it was customized with my name in it. And I've never visited said site before. And I love in Austin, Texas, not Ohio. And I can't unsubscribe from the newsletter from the site because I'm not registered at the site. And everytime I try to unsubscribe by replying to the e-mail with unsubscribe in the subject line (which is an option given by the e-newsletter), I get back a delivery failure. And I tried to send an e-mail to customer service via an interactive form on the newspaper's website, but that failed as well.
Is this spam? Is someone playing a joke on me?
The only logical answer I can come up with is that I'm a registered user of the Austin American-Statesman website, which is owned by Cox Newspapers, which also owns the Dayton Daily News. And according to the user agreement on Statesman.com, they can share my info with Cox subsidiaries that may offer something I'd be interested in. So if they are sharing my information, why on earth would they think that someone that lives in Austin would give a fuck about shit that happens in Dayton?
I think I'll go with thinking this is spam and freak the frack out. Gah.
