So I rented some movies this weekend (*gasp*/*shock*), and I've watched three-fourths of them.
I watched 101 Rent Boys on Saturday. It was OK, but kinda not too thought provoking. As the title implies, it's a documentary about male escorts. It was pretty standard fare. I was kinda disappointed with the filmmakers. I mean, they had a section called "Straight" where they talked to the straight guys, but all they pretty much say is "yeah, we're straight" and don't go into why they have sex with men for money. There was so much they could've done with that, but nope. Sure, it was probably all they had to work with, and they couldn't go get more guys that were more interesting, but hey, what do I know.
And most of the gay guys, well, it was sad how they deluded themselves about how they got molested as a child was good for them because it helped them realize they could make money by having sex. Like I said, sad. And I wanted to just strangle this one guy, who said he came from a wealthy family and was just hooking to make them mad, and he went on and on about how no one touches his hair, even if they pay him double or more, and how basically, well, he doesn't do anal or oral and how fucking intelligent he is. Man, if I ever come across that guy in person ... grrrr. Hate him.
So after that lackluster fare, I saw thirteen on Sunday. Now, I've been wanting to watch thirteen since it came out, but never really knew much about it. Man, was it depressing, but a great movie. I think it really did show how 13-year-olds today can be. They think they're adults. They're basically trying to get away with all the shit you normally try to get away with in high school, only these kids are still in fucking junior high. And they don't drink milk! But besides that, the main character, wow. That girl can act. Plus, you get to see Holly Hunter naked and Jeremy Sisto act like a boozer you just wanna hug.
Then I rediscovered the wonders of Adventures in Babysitting. I hadn't seen this movie since I was a kid, and I wanted to see if I enjoyed it as much as I thought I had. And I did. I mean, I totally forgot about Vincent D'Onofrio playing the Thor-ish mechanic. And how much of a douche that West Wing guy was. Heh.
And I still haven't seen the BBC doc on Auschwitz. Which is 300 minutes long. That's five hours! Five hours! Five hours of getting thoroughly depressed. Yeah, I mean, that's why I rented it, but I don't know if I'll be able to make it through all five hours. Especially since it's due tomorrow. Sigh.
OK, that's all. I'll let you all know how much of Aushwitz I tackle.
