More boring reviews

Wow, when I sell it like that, I'm sure to get tons of readers. Heh.

DC:

donnawomanWonder Woman 1: I really, really, really meant to post a review about this one when it came out, but there were so many idiotsfanboys doing it already, I figured I'd wait until the flames were fanned a little. So what do I think? I think I really, really want Donna Troy to remain as Wonder Woman and for Diana to remain a secret agent. That, of course, won't happen. Call it a hunch. Even though I adore Allan Heinberg on Young Avengers, his this issue was just all right. Although I really do love the teaming up of the Cheetah, GigantaDr. Zeul, and Dr. Psycho. (Although Dr. Psycho being here kinda implies that he'll be going free over in Manhunter.) I'll give Heinberg until the end of this arc to really win me over.

Manhunter 23: I may be a latecomer to Manhunter, but man an I enjoying it. It seems like Ramsey has gotten some of his granddad's power. Fight "fight" between Dr. Psycho and Talia Al Ghul is great (if just for the "you name sounds like some Hungarian stew" line). Obsidian out-gaying himself was classic. And finally finding out who Kate's grandparents really are (especially that her grandmother was possibly the most sluttiest-dressed superhero ever) and the ties that gives her to the hero world is great. This comic needs to not be cancelled ever.

Brave New World: This issue serves as an introduction to several projects DC has coming out. First we get Martian Manhunter in his new outfit. And he's talking to himself about not being the last Martian. (Although you'd think he'd be used to it by now.) Then we get the new, last (?) OMAC. Oy. Freedom Fighters looks all right (although I'm sure I'd know more about them if I hadn't dropped Battle for Bludhaven), but man, can the new Phantom Lady get a breast reduction? How does she fucking walk around with those things?

I'm worried about her back. She must have horribly back pain. Geez. Please, Daniel Acuna, I beg you, if she has to have big boobs, can you can at least bring her down to a D cup? Thanks. The Creeper also looks interesting, but maybe I'm just saying that because it's a guy fighting crime while wearing only a banana hammock. The new Atom? Not interested (and I know that's blasphemy considering it's Gail Simone writing). And Trails of Shazam looks nifty. I think I'll check that one out. And five Monitors? Oh my.

Flash 1: I was never much of a Flash fan, and I guess I'm still not. This issue was ... well, shitty. Just because Wally West became the Flash after Barry Allen died in Crisis on Infinite Earths doesn't mean it was a great idea to have a now magically-aged Bart Allen become Flash because Wally and Co. are MIA in the not-Speed Force after Infinite Crisis. And Bart isn't a fun character anymore (as of this issue). I want to give this a try, but ultimately, I don't think it'll be worth my money.

Robin 151: So the ex-Batgirl is now Shiva Jr.? I can live with that. And, plus, next issue, the hotness that is the new Captain Boomerang. Oh, yeah, and Robin's in here, too. He's better in Titans anyway.

Teen Titans 36, 37: Where to begin. The new Doom Patrol ... I'm in love! Mallah and the Brain ... best inter-species super-villian gay couple ever! The irony of Mento writing a book called My Greatest Adventure. All the references to Grant Morrison's run of Doom Patrol. Kid Devil's lies revealed. The hotness of Kid Devil. Negative Man being so negative. Mento putting the Chief in his place (man, I wished he had said "but you are in that chair," but then I remember Mento isn't gay). The fact that Miss Martian thought Ravager would like a pie in the face. Cassie and Tim's awkward moment. Man, why is it that the best books being put out by both Marvel and DC are their teen superhero books?

Marvel:

uncanny
Uncanny X-Men 474, 475: Issue 474 provided a lame ending for a lame storyline. And apparently set up the story that goes on in the annual, which I didn't pick up. Moving on ... 475 brings in the new creative team of Ed Brubaker and Billy Tan ... and it's a very welcome change. This run is basically a continuation of the story Brubaker started in Deadly Genesis. It's largely Xavier trying to redeem himself for basically making Vulcan the villian he is. So he puts together a rag-tag team: the loyal Nightcrawler and Marvel Girl (who has her own reasons for wanting to see the Shi'ar dead, and plus, she's the alternate-reality niece of the villian), Warpath (who wanted to kill Xavier at one point and held much animosity toward him for years), Havok (because, well, they are going up against his long-lost brother) and the ever (currently) wacky Polaris. This was a good issue, although it was all just set up for the next 11 issues. Looking forward to seeing how this epic works out.

Young Avengers 12: Action, action, action. Pretty much a good end to the first "season" of Young Avengers. There's so much to love about this issue. Kate Bishop standing up to Captain America and finally getting a codename (although if she keeps said codename we'll just have to wait and see). Billy explaining to Cap who he thinks he and Thomas are. Vision officially joining the team. The way Hulkling and the Super Skrull end a war. Eli finally gets the powers he claimed to have to begin with. Why on earth is Jessica Jones still pregnant here? Teddy and Billy. The impending love triangle between Tommy, Kate, and Eli. They're going off to fight the Zodiac? Awesome!

Runaways 16, 17: We're at the midpoint of the "Parental Guidance" storyline. Molly's been kidanapped. The kids are acting like they're in a very special episode of Degrassi. Karolina returns (with her shape [and sex] shifting gal [guy] pal who she ended up not marrying because, well, the planet they were on got destroyed. Vic hacks into himself (how's that for self-exploration). And, uh, I don't like how this looks for Nico. Um, when does the new issue come out, again?

Ares 5 (of 5): So, Zeus unbrainwashed Ares's brainwashed son, and now said son is the new god of war. (And now we have to figure out who the baby mama is.) So, what, Ares Jr. is gonna join the Young Avengers? Or the Runaways? Or is that all just a red herring? Oy.

"New" Excalibur7–9: So Black Tom lost his powers. Dazzler seems to have gained Mr. Immortal's power. Oh, Psylocke magically appears, only to have Brian tell her about his conspiracy theory about a second Captain Britain Corps. (Oy.) Oh, that darn Shadow King shows up. (And everyone forgets that Dazz and Bets used to be teammates and all by not having them commiserate or even so much as interact with each other.) Oh, Bets magically disappears. And ... now it's "The Chamber Show," starring Jono Starsmore and the casts of Weapon X and Apocalypse vs. Dracula. And apparently Jono knew all the time that he was allegedly a descendant of Apocalypse ... and never mentioned it to the X-Men or Generation X the years he was on the teams. And now Chamber looks a lot like Apocalypse. Oh, and Pete Wisdom looks concerned and shit. Why am I still reading this?

More later. Or not.
