i can't believe something like this is taking place at my old stomping grounds. i know the intentions are probably good (to dispel stereotypes and whatnot), but at the same time, it just turns these people into specimens. and maybe makes people think about more stereotypes.
and it makes it seem like people go around all day only thinking about whether someone is gay or straight, which, if they are, they need something better to think about like global warming or unjust laws or, i don't know, getting laid.
and it all sounds like a game show gone wrong. if you guess someone's orientation right, do you win a prize? a donut or a banana, perhaps (depending on your sexual preference, of course).
maybe a frank discussion about the negative effects of stereotypes in general (and not just where orientation is involved, although i know the organization putting this on is strictly for "sexual minorities" [which, by the way, what does that mean? i don't have much sex; does that make me a sexual minority?]), minus all the game-show-esque hoopla might have been a better route to go.
but then again, this is a college campus with more than it's fair share of apathetic students who don't go to campus events, so maybe they felt the need for the sideshow tactics. but that's all it boils down to: sideshow tactics. which, in the end, just reinforces the whole "gays are a sideshow" thing that the whole thing is trying to get people over.
oy.
