the reason: some of my happiest childhood moments were when my maternal grandmother would babysit me and take me down with her to our church to play loteria with the other viejitas. la sirena was the most memorable card because, well, it was a topless mermaid.

I have fond memories of the same game. so much so that I purchased my own set the last time I was in texas. I haven't played...but I just needed to have the cards and the boards.
yeah, i don't think i've played loteria since i was in college in san marcos. i bought a set a while back with the sole purpose of putting the cards up in my cube at my then job. see. i still want to play it again, though. funner than bingo. and educational.
