the comic in question: countdown presents: the search for ray palmer: superwoman/batwoman (could that title be any longer?). the whole point of these search for ray palmer one-shots is to showcase the new earths in the multiverse (it certainly isn't actually about searching for ray palmer [aka the atom] and it certainly isn't about following donna troy, kyle rayner, jason todd, and a monitor around).
this particular issue takes place on earth 11, an earth where, well, the genders are reversed. all the male superheroes from our earth are females there, and vice versa. i thought it was an interesting issue. and i was happy with most of the costume designs. i mean, you'd think the artist (or editorial mandate) would make all the female costumes a bit revealing, but no. all the costumes stay very true to the male counterparts from the proper earth.
the thing that bothered me was the male heroes costumes. ok, wonder man's costume, while true to wonder woman, was a little ... silly.
see? i mean, yeah, it seemed a little proper for a warrior, and all the manazons looked straight out of 300, and at least his skirt didn't have stars on it. bah. i'm just being nitpicky with him.
even the male design for black canary didn't bother me too much. i mean, seeing a man fight crime in short-shorts (ala lt. dangle from reno 911!) and fishnets would've seemed a little silly, albeit true to the actual black canary. i guess my nitpick with him is they made the male black canary look a bit too much like green arrow. here's the male black canary.

ok, so here's where my rant comes to: phantom man. to understand where i'm coming from, let's show the current phantom lady.

um, yeah, i don't think so. it seems so wrong, considering that every phantom lady has had a revealing costume. this guy is showing next to no skin. it's not right. if phantom lady is going to have triple-f porno breasts and a costume that barely counts as clothing, than phantom man should have a 15-inch gay-porno cock and his costume should just be a cape and a jockstrap. essentially, he should look like he belongs in something done by class comics. [WARNING: do NOT go to the class comics site if you do not want to see male comic book characters with redunkulous cocks partaking in gay male sex. that is all.]
so yeah. there's my rant. join me again soon where i'll reveal why i'm really not enjoying the angel: season 6 comic book so far, while loving the buffy: season 8 comic.
*this is the first week i've *ahem* downloaded my comics. over the past couple of months, i've only been buying about 2-5 comics per week, and downloading the others i would've gotten. but considering my current financial distress, i've had to stop buying comics altogether. it's made me more than a little sad. sigh.

That Phantom Man costume is really disappointing. I designed a "Phantom Lord" costume way back in July '06 that showed off more skin. (Although he didn't have much of a package goin' on.)
