the japanese girl on the street

so for the first 15 or so blocks of my walk today, i was alongside, behind, or in front of this japanese girl who kept on looking at signs and back at some map she had printed out, and was obviously a little lost. at the intersection of 29th and guadalupe, she finally turned to me asked me for directions. only i didn't really understand what she said at first because it sounded like japanglish (think texmex). i said i didn't know where that was, wherever it was she asked. then she showed me her map and pointed to somewhere on the UT campus on 24th street. so i said, ok, just keep going straight until you hit 24th, then turn left. she said thanks, we smiled, and for the next few blocks, i couldn't get "el scorcho" by weezer out of my head, even though this girl was totally japanese and didn't do anything for me except make me want to hug her and put chopsticks in her hair.

when we reached 24th and guadalupe, she turned to me again and said "turn left here?" i said "yes." she said "thank you." and we smiled again, she turned left, and i continued on guadalupe, only now "el scorcho" was replaced by "devil inside" by INXS (take that as you will).

now, when i walk, i'm usually aimlessly walking just so i can get out of my head. and usually looking around a lot to see if there's anything worthwhile to photograph. anyway. before i knew it, i was at congress and cesar chavez and thought to myself "you know, i've never walked along town lake". so i did. it was nice. it was around 5 p.m. when i got down there, so the sun as setting-ish, and i got a couple of nice-ish pics. and saw some eye candy. man, now i know why there's so many missed connections on craigslist by the gays about guys they see there. geez.

anyway. i'd had enough by around 5:45 and decided to head back home. i should've taken the bus. a smarter, saner man would've taken the bus, but then again, i've never been accused of being either of those things. so even though my feet were killing me, i still walked (more like dragged) back to my apartment on 38th from town lake.

the funny thing is, i was walking on lavaca, and a couple of blocks before you get to the capital-ish area, the sidewalk if closed, and you have to cross the street and walk on that sidewalk for a block, only to have to cross back to the other side of the street because now the sidewalk on the side you had to cross to in the first place is now closed. my reaction to this zigzagging? i said out loud "zigazig-ah". yeah. then i couldn't get "wannabe" by the spice girls out of my head until i reached MLK.

and now i'm home. and my feet fucking hurt.

gah.
