upfronts, day 3: fuck me

So today was CBS' turn to reveal their fall schedule. I'll just say that I'm a little outraged, but not surprised.

So straight to the outrage: The land of CSIs and Survivor canceled two of my favorite shows, Joan of Arcadia and Judging Amy. In reality, these are the only shows I watch on CBS. But I'm not surprised. Both shows ended their seasons with plotlines that could serve as springboards for next season or as an end to the show. Well, in that respect, Joan didn't end with much resolved.

The fact that both shows were axed and replaced by shows that are basically following their same curves is a little disconcerting. In Amy's place (and timeslot) is Close to Home, about a aggressive prosecutor/mother staring Jennifer Finnigan (the failed NBC sitcom Committed) and Christian Kane (Angel). Wasn't there a show on ABC in the early 90s following the same plot?

Joan gets replaced (and in her timeslot as well) by Ghost Whisperer. It stars Jennifer Love Hewitt. Do I really have to say more? OK, I guess I will. She plays a young wife who talks to dead people. OK, so it kinda sounds more like NBC's Medium, which I already watch. So yeah. And I fucking hate JLH.

Everything else sounds really bad, as well. Threshold, staring Carla Gugino (Sin City, Karen Sisco) and Brent Spiner (Star Trek: TNG), which sounds like a cross between Roswell and some other crap show ABC just greenlit. How I Met Your Mother just sounds like crap, and I'm sorry that Alyson Hannigan is associated with this show that is being narrated by Bob Saget.

Sigh. OK, I'm starting to lose a lot of hope in TV. Well, there's still Fox and UPN. OK, there is no hope ...
