So here it is, my Emmy noms rant. Finally.
Let's start with Comedy Series. Nominated were Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs, and Will & Grace.
My prediction for the winner: Either Desperate Housewives or Everybody Loves Raymond
The show I want to win but won't: Arrested Development or Scrubs
I'd like to start off with why the fuck is Will & Grace still around and why did it receive so many dog-damn nominations? W&G is a piece of shit. I tried picking it up again last season, but gave up. I tried it again this season, and quickly gave up again. The writing has gone down the crapper, and they build the stories too much around their guest stars. The stars themselves have just regressed to tit and gay jokes. Real juvenile shit. As for my predictions, it will be a close race between Desperate Housewives and Raymond. DH was a surprise hit for ABC this year, and I love this show. But ... it kinda falls under the Sex and the City curse of falling under "comedy" when it's an equal take of comedy and drama. I've always hated Raymond, but it will probably be a top contender since this was it's last season and has always been one of CBS's cash-cows. Although Arrested or Scrubs should win, it's highly unlikely. I love both of these shows dearly. Arrested already won in this category last year, and with the extreme popularity of DH and Raymond, it makes a second consecutive win kind of unlikely, "Afternoon Delight" be damned. Scrubs has always been well-written and fucking hilarious. I wish it would win, but, again, highly unlikely.
Now on to Drama Series. Nominated were Deadwood, Lost, Six Feet Under, 24, and The West Wing.
My prediction for the winner: Lost
Show I want to win but won't: Six Feet Under
The only one of these shows I watch is Six Feet Under, and I completely missed the season that it was nominated for. Nonetheless, I want it to win, but it won't because fucking Lost is all critically-acclaimed and shit and has the ratings to back it up. I never got the hype about Lost, and I was never interested in watching it. Nonetheless, it'll win because it's ABC's cash cow at the moment.
As for actor in a comedy, nominated were Jason Bateman, Zach Braff, Eric McCormack, Ray Romano, and Tony Shalhoub.
Who will win: Ray Romano
Who should win: Jason Bateman or Zach Braff
Ray Romano will win because he's the fucking media darling and everyone still has the whole "last season" bull shit on their heads. So yeah. Jason or Zach should win because they are funny ...
I could care less about actor in a drama.
As for actress in a comedy, nominated were Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Patricia Heaton, Felicity Huffman, and Jane Kaczmarek.
Who will win: Teri Hatcher
Who should win: anyone else
Teri Hatcher has been overhyped on Desperate Housewives. Her character was kind of funny at first, but quickly became fucking annoying, especially in the way they tried to Gilmore-up her and her daughter's relationship. And her "oh, I'm such a ditz I accidentally set a house on fire" bullshit got old hat so fast. But she'll win anyhow because of her overhypedness. Any of the other nominees should win because they were less annoying and far more funny than Teri Hatch-job.
As for actress in a drama, I don't care about anythign else except Patricia Arquette. No one was as surprised as I was at how great Medium turned out, and the Arquette was perfect in the role. I was even more surprised that she was nominated. All I can hope for is that she has a very Arrested Development win.
As for supporting actor and actress in a comedy, I just care about Jeffrey Tambor and Jessica Walter. Both proved to be funnier than ever on the past season of Arrested Development. Tambor was able to protray identical brothers amicably and hilariously. Walter proved to out-bitch herself this season. Both are underrated and underappreciated. They both deserve wins. And Arrested Development deserves all the Emmys!
There you have it. I really don't give a shit about the other categories. I care more about comedy because it's dear to my heart. And has been getting butchered of late. So to sum up: Arrested Development should win everything it's nominated for and others it's not nominated for. Every other actor and show can go to hell in a handbasket for all I care. OK, that's all. Do with this what you will. I'm all cranky now. Need nicotine.
