maybe i should have tried harder for the new york times internship four years ago

I normally would not read about MTV's Laguna Beach, but Gawker had a piece on it that featured a pull from the New York Times article, and I had to go to the NYT site to make sure that what I was reading was correct. Here is said sentence:

Both Ms. Cavallari and Mr. Colletti have signed up a team of talent representatives in the hopes landing roles on scripted television shows.

Does anyone else notice that it should be "in the hopes of landing roles"? OK, I'm anal; sue me.
