confessions of a french fry freak

i spent quite some time out and about today. first off, there was i ♥ video to drop off some videos and rent some more. and, as what i should've seen as a sign for the day, there was a long line to check out because there was only one cute worker guy. and he liked my shirt. if only i wasn't so laconic when i'm by myself (and if there hadn't been more people behind me), i may have tried talking to him. he was playing some kids in the hall, too.

then, it was off to vulcan to drop off movies there, and another failed attempt at trying to track down tristram shandy: a cock and bull story. one of these days, i'll finally see it.

then, off to half-price at lamar and koenig, which was a madhouse, so naturally (at least in my head) i picked up a queen victoria bio. particularly madhousey was the comics section. because there was this man there, and he was basically ransacking. i felt sorry for the poor worker guy that was just trying to stock two long boxes worth of comics, and this guy wasn't letting him do it. he kinda insisted (in a nice-ish way) that he be able to go through the long boxes before they were stocked. and he did. and he ended up buying a long box and a half worth of comics. (he even took the two long boxes, and probably didn't have to pay for them. oy. i felt sorry for his wife and son, who were obviously done shopping a while back but had wait for "the collector". the son particularly looked bored as hell. and the wife just kinda looked embarrassed.) then there was the DILF with the 17-month-old daughter (he kept switching arms so he could look through the comics better). besides the DILF, there were some good comic finds, too. picked up some issues of sensational she-hulk, hellblazer, hunter: the age of magic, and some old issues of wonder woman that are older than i am (complete with the burst on the cover that says "now 40¢"). i got a little frustrated when i saw an almost complete run of infinity inc. that i just yesterday got on eBay for $43, but then i got less mad when i realized it wasn't a complete run, and i'm getting a complete run, so there. and, of course, the long, long, long checkout line. but for 24 comics and a books for less than $20, i can't complain.

after that, i went to the newly relocated north half-price at palmer and mopac. (did i mention half-price was having a 20-percent off sale?) no cute guys there, but plenty of people. and yet another collector father and his trained son. seriously, this guy has his son going through the comics for what he wanted while he sat and read something. i felt bad for the kid. as for finds, i got a Greek mythology book; some issues of batgirl: year one, robin (a couple of the "spoiler as robin" issues), a random issue of titans, a random issue of team titans (where it looks like terry long is about to be killed by a 50 ft. woman), random x-men issues, and titans: scissors, paper, stone; and the first Starman TPB. and yet another long line (eery foreshadowing at this point), but again, a book, a TPB, and 11 comics for less than $20.

now, things get a little ridiculous. i went to fry's to eye-shop for an external hard drive (which i will eventually end up actually byuing) and some dvds. i picked up the third season of arrested development (which was on sale), the fourth season of buffy, and some cheesey horror flicks. and after seeing the line, i put them all back. seriously. the line, ok, if you've been to fry's then you know what i mean by the line was full and not moving. the line was starting to overflow into the dvd area. yeah. that was my cue to leave.

at that point, i was craving some fries, specifically waffle fries from chick-fil-a. so i went to the one by work and ordered to large orders. when i went to the window, the cashier asked me what condiments i wanted, and i asked for mustard, and he gave me this look as if to say "what kind of freak are you?" what can i say, i like mustard on my fries instead of ketchup. sue me.

and now i've rambled way too much. time to get back to the jeffersons marathon on tv land.
