i'm one of the few people out there that loves soap operas and comic books (fans are usually mutually exclusive). anyway. now i'm gonna talk about soaps.
my all-time favorite soap is general hospital. now, i didn't grow up watching GH; i grew up watching the CBS soaps. i can vaguely remember the early days of the bold and the beautiful, but i do remember when brooke logan was a poor ho. but that's not here or there right now, anyway.
tracy quartermaine may just be my favorite soap opera character. my love for tracy grew from watching the city, which was a spin-off of loving, with tracy being a transplant from GH. after falling in love with her character there, i did research about how she was on GH. now, tracy isn't a very lovable character. she once withheld heart medication from her father in order to stay in his will, but ended up not in his will because he was faking his heart condition in order for her to show her bad side. and on GH (up until she was on the city), tracy was shown basically as nothing more than a self-serving harpy.
and that changed on the city. on the city, tracy grew kind of a heart. even though she started out as a blackmailer and married the head of a mafia and hired a hooker to consumate their marriage which caused her new husband to die of a heart attack and then she got her new nanny to help her move the dead body to a freezer in the basement of their building. but that's neither here nor there. one of the key points of the city was tracy grew a friend in her nanny, zoey. and she proved to be a rather loving mother to her second son, dillon. and she even became sort of friends with a fellow mother in the building, ally rescott, who also had a son (and the same actress is now also on GH).
anyway. so now, years later, tracy is married to luke spencer. and it's a great match (whodivethunkit). that two GH stalwarts would be great together. and they are. tracy has been a semi-good stepmother to lulu, and she's proven time and again that she really cares, if not loves, luke. and today's episode proved that point. tracy's grown a heart. the decisions she's made are for her family (although they're not always good decisions). but her heart is in the right place. and isn't that what's supposed to matter?
maybe it's because i identify with her. i don't know. but tracy deserves a little respect. even if she is fictional. that's all.
