doing the math

i turn 26 on the 25th. couldn't get to sleep, so i started thinking about my family and where there were respectively at the age of 26. here's what i figured out.

my dad: divorced twice, son that may or may not be his, dating (or engaged) to my mom

my mom: on her second marriage, with three children, ages 8, 7, and 1

my (half)brother: single, living with his grandparents"married" to a pathological liar/ex-gang member (their marriage was not valid because she was still married to her husband that was in prison), lived in a shitty little house, had a mullet, several DUIs

my eldest (half)sister: divorced once, living with the father of her third child, two other children from two different fathers, been in jail several times

my sister: married, with child(?) (yes, i don't remember when this niece was born. then again, i don't remember when any of my other nieces were born, either, but considering the first was born when i was in 5th grade, can you blame me?)

my thoughts: holy shit! by 26, my parents had FOUR marriages between them (and THREE divorces); my sisters had TWO marriages between them!

i haven't had a boyfriend last more than 6 months.

for some reason, this makes me feel a LOT better about my current situation as i near my birthday. yeah, i'm single with no romantic prospects and barely scraping by with my current, part-time freelance gig, but it could be worse. i could have a mullet!
