so remember that pleasant phone conversation i had with my mother just a couple of days ago?
yeah. we're back to the status quo.
today, i got my birthday package from my mother. i'll say this: i'm not completely throwing everything out. she got me the most recent teenage mutant ninja turtles movie (the cgi one), which i've actually been wanting to see*. but she ruined the surprise a little by telling me on our phone conversation that she was probably going to get it for me. she also got me a tmnt shirt.
size: large.
look, i know i've gained a lot of weight in the past two to three years**, but i'm NOT a large. i'm still comfortably*** a medium when it comes to shirt size. still, i'll probably make it a sleeping shirt.
then there are two other shirts. both with way too much to printed on them that's way not anything i'd say. ever. those are waiting to be tossed.
then, there's the towels. which is probably my mother's way of saying she thought my apartment was filthy during her surprise visit. also, they're mostly burnt orange. which makes NO sense since i went to SWT (whose colors i actually like). and i kinda hate UT. i'll still use them, though, because you can never have enough towels.
and now for the coup d'etat: all price tags were left intact. yes, it was a piece of masterful passive-aggressiveness on my mother's part. it is her superpower. if only she could use it for good instead of guilt tripping her youngest child. also, she included the receipt for the tmnt dvd and shirt, "in case she got the wrong one"****. she bought them at target, which gives you a gift receipt. nope. she included the whole receipt so i could see how much she spent.
whatevs. i could dwell on this more and get all lorelai about it, but i've had a couple of beers, and i've been watching good reruns of 30 rock, the office, and scrubs tonight. so i think i'm gonna go the positive route***** and just continue drinking and watch the tmnt movie.
yup.
*i used to love tmnt when i was a kid. possibly more than i loved batman. and both tmnt and batman were some of the first comics i ever got. although, you know, the comics never matched up with the cartoons, but i still enjoyed them because it was the same characters. anyway. i had renewed interest in tmnt a few years ago when the latest cartoon series came out. i need to try and track those down.
**about 40 pounds, mostly in the gut/waist region.
***it took me a year to admit to people that i was buying medium size shirts. maybe i should've said "comfortably", because i would like to lose the weight, but i hate exercising (especially when it comes to the gut region) and love beer and cheese.
****that was basically all she wrote in my birthday card.
*****yup. i know. i'm shocked, too.
