unemployment is SOOOOOO boring

it really is. i know i sang a different tune when i was out of work in june '05, but i had tons of things to do back then. i had interviews lined up. i got freelance work right away. and i had shows to go to and friends to hang out with. and i was working for the state again by the end of the month.

but now? not so much. sure, last week i was kinda in denial about the whole thing, but this week? kinda freaking out. my last four invoices haven't gotten paid out yet (which i think they're just going to pay them all out at the same time, which means i'd get the check next tuesday or wednesday because of labor day).

today, i sent in my resume and "cover letter"* for this sketchy job at this place that one of my friends works at. i'm more than qualified for the job**, but as i said, it's sketchy.

and last week i was also thinking of cold calling/e-mailing ad agencies to see if they needed any freelance work. so today i was searching for agencies that looked like they might need use of a proofreader or editor...and it was kinda pathetic. i'll probably send out resumes to those that said they accepted resumes from potential freelancers, but i won't be sending to anything to those who didn't have anything like that on their sites. i'm afraid if i did that, it might potentially turn those agencies off from potential work. bleh.

i didn't even leave my apartment yesterday. today, i went for a little walk up guadalupe to 28th and back. and that kinda depressed me because i really wanted to go to i heart video and rent something and go to conan's and get some pizza and get a sno-cone. but i can't really be too frivolous with money right now***.

meh. time for more bad tv.

*is an e-mail still considered a cover letter? it seems so...archaic in our modern terminology. i mean, seriously, calling it a cover letter when you have to mail in your resume and application and such makes sense. but in an e-mail? it just feels a little awkward to call it a cover letter when it's just an e-mail. but it raises the question: what should it then be called? cover e-mail? e-cover letter? i'm probably over-thinking this.
**except for the having a degree part. and the proficiency in indesign part.
***note to self: must work on a weekly budget.
