This week, in Comiclandia ...

OK, reviews are like totally late this week. Sue me.

uncannyUncanny X-Men 471
Part 3 of the more than lackluster "Wand'ring Star" storyline was, well, lackluster. You know, I hate to put down Chris Claremont. He had a really great run on Uncanny way back when. And those were great stories. But the two times he's taken Uncanny over again, well, just doesn't gel. This storyline and the past storyline, while I'm glad they've put Rachel "Grey" to the forefront, well, they've been shitty stories. The Grey family getting slaughtered shouldn't have been a Rachel story; it should've been a Jean Grey story. And this storyline does nothing. She uses her old hound skills to -- wait for it -- go to therapy. Yeah. And then she gets ambushed by the Death Commandos ... again. You know, for a woman that's powerful enough to (combined with Psylocke) shield the city of Chicago from a laser attack from outer space, well, it's amazing how many times gets her mind fucked with and snuck up on (come on! She was a fucking hound! How does she keep getting the wool pulled over her eyes! Gah!). Anyway. Next issue starts Claremont's last storyarc (before Ed Brubaker takes over) and it's supposed to reveal how Psylocke came back from the dead. Let's hope it's not a shitty reason. Although I'm sure it will be. Meh.

xmdgX-Men: Deadly Genesis 5 (of 6)
OK, so Vulcan's the third Summers brother. And he's uber-powerful. And he let Rachel go to warn the X-Men. And blah blah blah. And -- no surprise -- Professor Xavier lost his powers. And Kitty Pryde was right about his jerk-ness way back when. Meh. I really don't know how I feel about this limited series anymore. It started out great, but this issue felt, to quote Willow Rosenberg, like "mostly filler." Also, I don't buy the backup story with Xavier wanting to recruit Emma for his secret X-Men team. It doesn't make sense. And it almost goes way beyond retconing. Bah. Let's see if the last issue redeems itself.

spbatSuperman/Batman 24
So I had to go back and re-read the past couple of issues to make sense of this issue since it's been months since issue 23 came out. So this issue is the penultimate for the "With A Vengeance" storyarc, and stuff happens. I'm curious to see how this all ties into every other single issue of this series. Let's talk about the good of this issue: the Batwoman cave. The hotness of Superlad. Big Bard (heh). Supergirls (oh my). I wanna see female Darkseid. And poor Batzarro. We hardly knew ye. But love the Jason Todd homage (they seem to be all over the place these days). Not much bad about this issue, and it was certainly worth the wait. Can't wait until the next issue to see how this all wraps up.

actionAction Comics 837
Part 2 of "Up, Up, And Away" gives us more insight into Clark Kent, the journalist, and that totally excites me more than you'd imagine. One of the things that always attracted me to Superman was the journalist aspect, especially when I was a journalist. But it seems like everytime I picked up an issue there was no, you know, journalism going on, and if it was, it was all being done by Lois. But this issue really shows Clark. My favorite line has to be when Lois asks him why he didn't fight back when Lex Luthor and some thugs roughed him up at the end of last issue and Clark says "I did. The article ran today, didn't it?" That, my dear friends, made me want to jumo Clark Kent's bones. That's fucking hot. The rest of the issue was good, too, and the ending leaves open some possibilities for next issue and the rest of the storyline. I can't wait. I don't think I've ever been this excited about Superman. Oh, my.

mnhtManhunter 20
I have to admit that I'm really enjoying most of DC's One Year Later titles. This issue really surprised me. I was never all too interested in picking up Manhunter before, but after reading this issue, I'm wondering how I never picked it up. Manhunter even makes a fight with Punch and Jewelee seem interesting, especially when she gets backup from Obsidian (one of the few gay capes that actually gets screentime in mainstream comic book). The whole issue is pretty nifty, especially Kate's skuff with Director Bones (who I'm going to have to do some research on). I am looking forward to the next issue, which promises some great Dr. Psycho stuff since Kate's now his defense attorney. Sweet.
