this morning i was having a hypothetical conversation (scroll down about half way) in my kitchen, which led me to comtemplate my uses of certain rooms, notably the kitchen and bathroom.
for some reaosn, these two rooms have always been highly social for me, in a salon-esque way. (mostly with roommates and in party situations, i suppose.)
both were popular places to find me when i lived in san marcos. i still remember my birthday bash in 2002 where tanya, liberty, girl ian (i forget if she had an extra "n" at the end or an "i" between the "a" and "n", so i'll just use the common spelling), and myself holed up in my bathroom for a while to just talk and such. and my former roommate amy and i always seemed to hold drunken conversations in our shared bathroom. and some of the best pictures of me have been taken in my bathroom (my bathroom's always have great lighting).
the same goes for the kitchen. amy and i had some good conversations in the kitchen while in the search for a snack (or beer). at my last apartment in san marcos, i also gravitated toward my kitchen, mostly because i loved the wallpaper in there and would have people over for drinks and we'd sit on my kitchen counters, drinking and talking about the wallpaper and other nonsense. my ex-roomie kevin and i seemed to only encounter each other while cooking. and i often had drunken conversations with my ex-roomie david's cat max, with me sitting on the ktichen counter and max laying on the stove. (it's not really as weird as it sounds, although having a conversation with a cat does seem a little dopey.)
my gravitation towards these rooms leaves me a little sad with my current apartment, where both kitchen and bathroom are remarkably small (and i never have anyone over, anyway). the kitchen counters are too small and cluttered to have me sit on them, and the only visitors i've had in my tiny bathroom have been a roach and a grasshopper, and i've not much felt like conversing with them.
so i guess a bigger kitchen and bathroom will be high criteria when i start apartment hunting sometime next year. is it then yet?
